Best Memory Foam Beanbags

TL;DR

Only 2 brands ship true shredded memory foam at scale: Lovesac (Durafoam, ~$1,300) and Cosac ($249 to $399). Lovesac is the industry benchmark with a lifetime fill warranty. Cosac is the same viscoelastic memory foam feel at roughly a third the price, with everything included. Everything else in the category is shredded polyurethane foam (still good, not the same).

Memory foam is the fill type most people want once they've sat in one. It molds to your body, holds its shape for years, and doesn't make the crunching sound that bead-filled bags make every time you shift.

It's also the fill type most "memory foam beanbag" listings don't actually contain. A lot of brands use the phrase loosely. Real shredded memory foam is rarer than the search results suggest.

We make one (Cosac), so take our enthusiasm with a grain of salt. We'll be honest about where other brands do it better.

What Counts as Memory Foam

Memory foam is viscoelastic polyurethane. It softens with body heat, molds to pressure, and slowly returns to shape when you get up. You've felt it in mattresses.

In a beanbag context, memory foam has to be shredded to flow around you. Solid foam blocks don't work. Shredded memory foam has all the molding properties of the mattress version with the conforming movement of a beanbag.

Some brands use shredded polyurethane foam (not viscoelastic) and call it memory foam. It's a real shredded foam, but it doesn't have the heat-responsive molding. It's closer to a firm cushion than to a mattress topper.

When you see "memory foam" in a beanbag listing, check for: density numbers (3+ lb/ft is memory foam territory) and heat-responsive language ("molds with body heat" is a tell).

Why Memory Foam Beats Beads

On every metric that matters for longevity:

Compression. Beads flatten 30 to 50% within 12 months of daily use. Dense memory foam loses 5 to 10% over the same period.

Noise. Beads crunch. Foam doesn't. If you've ever tried to nap on a bead bag while someone else moved on it, you know.

Support. Beads scatter under weight, which is why bead bags bottom out when someone sits on the edge. Foam holds you up across the whole surface.

Refills. Beads need topping off every 6 to 12 months. Dense foam lasts 5+ years without touch-ups.

Cleanability. Beads escape through any seam or tear. If your bag rips, you'll find beads behind your fridge 3 years later. Foam stays put.

(We wrote a full comparison here if you want the long version.)

Lovesac Durafoam

Lovesac's proprietary fill. Shredded recycled foam blend that includes memory foam and firmer polyurethane in proportions they don't publicly disclose. Covered by a lifetime warranty on the insert.

It's genuinely one of the best beanbag fills ever made. Dense, springy, holds shape for a decade or more. Owners with Sacs from the early 2000s still report the fill feeling close to new after a fluff.

Pricing: SuperSac runs $1,300 to $1,500, BigOne runs $1,600 to $1,900. The fill is part of why the price is what it is.

Best for: Buyers who want the industry-benchmark memory foam fill with a warranty, and are fine paying premium pricing.

Cosac (Us)

Shredded memory foam, specifically. Viscoelastic polyurethane with the heat-responsive molding behavior. Dual-bag construction: inner liner holds the foam, outer sherpa cover zips off for washing.

5ft $249, 6ft $299, 7ft $399. Ships with everything included (fill, inner bag, outer cover). No upcharges for covers, no refills needed under normal use. Same viscoelastic category as Lovesac Durafoam, tested the same way, at roughly a third the all-in price.

Where Lovesac has us beat: 30 years of foam iteration and a lifetime warranty on the insert. We counter with a 60-day money-back guarantee and the observation that most buyers don't actually file warranty claims a decade later.

Best for: True shredded memory foam comfort at DTC pricing, for buyers who want the feel without the $1,300 price tag.

CordaRoy's

Shredded polyfoam, sometimes described as memory foam in marketing. In practice, it's softer and looser than Lovesac or Cosac fill. Not true viscoelastic memory foam in most configurations.

Prices: Full $330, Queen $560, King $800. The foam works well for the bed conversion (it flattens predictably) but is less dense for chair use.

Best for: Buyers who want memory-foam-adjacent feel with the bed conversion feature, and are willing to accept slightly less density for it.

Ultimate Sack

Shredded polyurethane foam, labeled "memory foam" on their site but more accurately a firmer support foam. Good durability, less of the mold-to-body feel.

Prices: 4000 (4ft) ~$220, 5000 (5ft) ~$290, 6000 (6ft) ~$390. US-made, direct-to-consumer, no retail.

Best for: US-made shredded foam at affordable pricing, for buyers who prioritize density over viscoelastic feel.

Big Joe Fuf

Fuf models use shredded polyurethane foam. Not memory foam in the strict viscoelastic sense, but real shredded foam rather than beads.

Fuf Large ~$140, Fuf XL ~$185, Fuf XXL ~$280. The cheapest legitimate shredded foam tier on the market.

Expect the foam to compress faster than Cosac or Lovesac (less dense starting material) but it'll still outlast any bead bag at 3x the price.

Best for: Buyers who want shredded foam at the lowest working price and accept shorter lifespan.

The Quick Comparison

Sorted by fill authenticity. "True memory foam" means viscoelastic, heat-responsive. "Shredded foam" means real foam but not viscoelastic.

What "Memory Foam" Often Doesn't Mean

Marketing uses "memory foam" loosely. A few things that get called memory foam but aren't:

Shredded polyurethane foam. Real foam, but not viscoelastic. Doesn't soften with body heat.

"Memory foam particles." Usually tiny pieces mixed with other fill. Concentration matters; check the spec sheet.

"Memory foam and microbead blend." Usually mostly beads with a sprinkle of foam. Closer to a bead bag than a foam bag.

If the listing doesn't clearly say "shredded memory foam," treat it as shredded polyurethane and adjust expectations.

The Density Question

Foam density is measured in lb/ft. For beanbags, anything above 3 lb/ft qualifies as memory foam territory. Anything below 2 lb/ft is softer polyurethane that'll compress faster.

Most brands don't publish density numbers. If they do, it tells you something about their confidence. If they don't, ask support or assume it's on the lower end of the range.

The Honest Answer

For most buyers, the Cosac is the best memory foam beanbag on a value basis. True viscoelastic shredded memory foam, everything in 1 box, $249 to $399. We designed it to be exactly the answer to this question. We'd say that.

If money isn't the constraint and you want the industry benchmark with a lifetime warranty, Lovesac's Durafoam is the pick. 30 years of refinement is real, and the warranty holds up.

Under $200, nothing in the true memory foam category fits. Big Joe Fuf is shredded foam (still a real upgrade over beads), just not viscoelastic memory foam. Budget more or accept the trade-off.

Whatever you pick, the big choice is foam or beads. Everything else is secondary. Pick foam.

FAQ

Which is the best memory foam beanbag under $300? The Cosac 5ft at $249 or 6ft at $299. We built it to be the answer to this question, so the answer is biased by default. True shredded memory foam, washable cover, free shipping.

Is memory foam better than beads in a beanbag? On every durability metric, yes. On price, beads are cheaper upfront. Over 5 years, foam almost always wins on total cost.

Does memory foam make a beanbag hot? Shredded memory foam breathes better than solid memory foam blocks. Air flows between the pieces. It's comparable to any foam-filled cushion, not the mattress experience.

Can memory foam beanbags be washed? The foam itself no (it'd take forever to dry). The cover yes, if it's removable. Pick beanbags with removable covers.
